MACR Record Revenues and Profits New Web Products Drive 47% Growth
beat estimates by 3 cents (24% earnings surprise)

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1999--Macromedia (NASDAQ:MACR - news) today announced a 47% increase in revenues for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 1999. Revenues for the fourth quarter were $44,097,000 as compared with $30,012,000 in the same period a year ago. Gross profit increased 44% to $39,867,000 as compared with $27,653,000 in the fourth quarter a year ago. Net income rose to $7,343,000, or $0.16 per share, during the fourth fiscal 1999 quarter, compared to net income of $1,991,000, or $0.05 per share, a year ago.

Revenues for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1999 increased 33%, totaling $149,886,000 as compared with $113,086,000 a year ago. For the twelve-month period, gross profit increased 38% to $135,600,000 as compared with $98,089,000 in the same period a year ago. Net income for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1999 reached $19,784,000, or $0.44 per share, as compared with a net loss of $6,186,000, or $0.16 per share, in fiscal year 1998.
