James, about numbers ... I think nobody can predict anymore, we read expert and amature(?) prediction, and they are all wrong.
I sometimes wonder about the market, when a company loses money, their stock goes up because their loss is better than predicted, and company makes money, like our beloved Novell, their stock goes down because their earning is not closed to expectation, yours or mine is all the same, IT IS NOT IMPORTANT!
Now, why am I still holding on this stock?
I started as a day trader, I lost a lot of sleep and gained few gray hair because of the way I traded (or played), I got burned serveral times.
I looked back my record, I had picked SUNW at 18, CCI at 14, LOTS at 14, C at 17, AXP at 18, CMB at 18, MSFT at 65, ORCL at 8, CA at 4 and IBM at 42, these stocks are all at their all-time high today, I could (I would, I wanted) but I am not a millionier yet, why? because I don't have patience to hold long enough, these stocks are all beaten down to their knee but they have good products waiting to be recognized by the market and market takes a much longer time to agree than us investor.
I have good sense and ability to pick a good stock with great potential but I can't hold it, I used to joke about this with my wife because she has lots more patience than I do, I told her she should be the one to do the selling after I picked a buy.
Life is short, one cannot learn from mistakes will eventually lose (well, we shouldn't get involved in stock in the first place, but that is past, we must look ahead).
Novell has products the market needs, groupwise especially, plus the intranet, plus the NDS and JAVA, etc., these products are the future, if NOVELL just pushes theire NDS today, I will take a loss and go away ... but it is not true, they have these new products, they have new strategies to push them but market needs time to rcognize their values.
With a powerful CEO, a more aggresive market plan may leap forward just like IBM's CEO, ORCL's CEO, they are constantly talking to the market, they know how important the SHOW-PLACE is to the market because most market people are like us can be bought with sweet words with hopes ...
Peter Troop doesn't understand the art of communication, and his job is to keep investor's patience staying thick and talk positively and powerfully but he does not seems know enough regarding the big picture.
I have faith with NOVELL management, Joe M. is history, lets look ahead, NOVELL can only go up, their book value will hold them where they are today, the cusion is good.
Regards.
