From a SSB research note...

WSMC

Adding capacity to Fab 1 - 10 k wafers/month (current) to 32 k
wafers/month (end of 1999).

Fab 2 pulled in by 1-2 quarters. Originally expected to be in early next year and now orders will go out at the end of this year.

Fab 1 is 100% 0.25 micron capable.

Company expects its business mix to be 1/3rd DRAMs, with the remainder coming from foundry - Toshiba, Winbond, Syntex.

Toshiba expected to outsource 40% of its production over the next 2-3
years.

Quite interestingly, the company believes that a foundry should have an in-house mask shop as a close coupling between the litho and mask group is essential.

Company has an Alta 3500 that is producing 250 masks per month at 0.25 micron. WSMC eventually expects to have five Alta 3500's supporting 32 k wafer capacity.

Very open to Process sequence integration initiative from AMAT.

Evaluating SVG Micrascan - "needs to be a competitive overall deal for SVG to get the order".
