ORACLE Business Online(TM) Reports Early Successes With Applications Hosting
Pilot Phase Complete; First Customers Up and Running in Record Time, Saving
Thousands of Dollars per Month with Easier to Run ERP Systems
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced that Oracle Business OnLine(TM), the world's leading Internet application software hosting service, has successfully completed its pilot phase in which customers realized dramatic economic and efficiency gains. Founded on the principle that Oracle, as the world's number two software company, could run mission-critical applications software for its customers more economically and efficiently, Oracle Business OnLine has several customers up and running on Oracle(R) Applications. With their financial, manufacturing or human resources software systems up and running in record time, the first three pilot phase customers -- Core Technology Group, Robert Mondavi Corp. and Triton Network Systems -- are saving thousands of dollars per month on IT management costs.
Oracle Applications Release 11, Oracle's third generation of Internet-based enterprise application software, has been shipped to more than 2300 customer sites worldwide with 100 "live" customers running their applications 100 percent via web browsers. With Oracle Business OnLine, Oracle hosts the applications at remote data centers. Any size customer can quickly reap the benefits of enterprise-class systems, without the up-front expense and challenge of procuring and configuring equipment, and hiring and training technical staff.
Triton Network Systems Live in Less Than 30 Days
Triton Network Systems, a manufacturer of broadband fixed wireless products based in Orlando, Florida, went live with Oracle Financials(R) in less than 30 days using the Oracle FastForward(SM) Consulting implementation methodology and Oracle Business OnLine. Based on the success of the implementation of Oracle Financials, the company is extending the Business OnLine program to include additional application modules by the end of summer.
"We are at a very critical time in our growth now," said Carryl Smith, CIO, Triton Network Systems. "We wanted to make sure that we could have a Tier I ERP solution that will grow with us. At the same time, we need to use our internal IT resources to focus on our own strategic business operations. With Oracle Business OnLine, we can entrust IT management of our ERP systems to the experts."
A key issue for Triton Networks was that their systems would be able to scale as the company grows. "The performance and response times for the applications is terrific," added Smith. "Even though we are located in Florida and the Oracle data center is located in California, it's as if the server was sitting in the next room. This is a solution that we'll be able to stick with as our company grows."
Core Technology Group Saves Thousands of Dollars Per Month with Oracle Business OnLine
Core Technology Group, a California-based e-Solutions provider and systems integrator, is using Oracle Business OnLine to host its mission-critical applications over a Virtual Private Network. The firm was interested in Business OnLine because it eliminated the need to hire additional IT resources for its internal systems. By handing over database and application server maintenance to Oracle, Core cut its expenses immediately by $15,000 to $20,000 per month.
The decision to install the new system was made in March, and the system integrator had the new system running the first week of April -- a record implementation. "Being in business since 1985, we have plenty of experience doing rapid implementations," said Don Gootee, one of Core's co-founders, "but this one had to set a new record for us. Because the Oracle applications (accounts payable, cash management, and general ledger) are so full-featured, there was no need for customizations. Our systems were up and running with Business OnLine in just a few weeks."
Core's reliance on Oracle Business OnLine is expected to increase in the future. By July, the company plans to replace existing accounts receivable, project billing, project costing and possibly fixed assets applications with those from Oracle. "Because Oracle only charges a set fee for each user working with an application, we can easily expand our use of its applications and predict the associated costs with no surprises," added Gootee.
Rapid Y2K Solution for Robert Mondavi Corp.
Robert Mondavi Corp., Oakville, Calif., started using the service for human resources and payroll. In addition to solving a critical Y2K issue, Oracle Business OnLine allows the company to focus its scarce IT resources on more mission-critical areas than human resource systems.
"Our HR, payroll and benefits were not Y2K-compliant. It was old and ugly. We knew we were going to do something, and we didn't want to go through a lot of hoops," said Steve Soderberg, senior vice president at Mondavi. The company utilized Oracle Consulting's FastForward Human Resources approach in order to leverage Oracle's defined processes and pre-defined business solutions.
Mondavi met its Y2K deadline well in time, and enjoys the simplicity and cost savings of its new hosted applications. "Business OnLine has alleviated our need to hire additional DBAs and Unix specialists, while at the same time, delivering exceptional system performance and reliability," says Soderberg.
"Our early customers have come through the pilot program with quick implementations and are enjoying terrific levels of performance through Business OnLine," said Chris Russell, president, Oracle Business OnLine. "The Internet changes everything, and we are proving that true internet applications and technology allow us to successfully host full-featured business applications, so that customers can focus their resources toward their own strategic business needs."
