If I owned 10 shares out of a total of 100 and the company issues another 100 to another investor, that's a dilution. If I own 10 shares of a 100 total and the company issues 100 more shares, but gives me 10 of them, I then have 20 shares of 200 which is NOT a dilution. Stock splits are not dilutions either.
