When I was telling someone about Ritchie Bros. web site and how you could put in bids on-line, he had a few suggestions about how they could overcome reluctance by remote bidders:

1) Ritchie Bros. has to establish a rating system for their equipment and adhere strictly to it (ie. overall condition of exterior, amount of wear on tracks, missing parts, etc.) That way, everyone has an idea of what they are comparing it to.

2) They will have to take videos of the machines starting. Apparently, the smoke stack tells a lot about the machine & the sound of it running also.

All you heavy-equipment mechanics out there are welcome to add to the list.
