Did anybody watch Business World tonight? Joseph D'Cruz, who is a Professor of Management from the Rotman School of Management Studies, was on discussing the problems at Newbridge and he made a view interesting observations.

He said that Newbridge management did not know how to manage production that is based on a supply chain model. He also stated that he found it very hard to believe management's claim that they did not see these problems coming and if they didn't see them coming, then they have a serious problem. He mentioned Dell as a company that has thrived on this production model.

I'd like to add that I am quite astounded to hear Lutz say only three or four days before the company issued the earnings warning, that things were going very well and the company was having a great quarter. How could he not have known that they were having serious problems on the production side? The market reaction to this latest calamity has been very generous in my opinion. If this were an American company, the stock would have been hammered by more than 50%.

Canadian investors are either a forgiving lot or a bunch of fools. Or maybe they just like to dish out punishment in small increments spread out over a longer time period. Which is it?
