COMPANY PRESS RELEASE
Scottsdale Scientific Receives Approval From Bindley Western Industries to Service Their Customer Base SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. (May 5) BW HEALTHWIRE -May 5, 1999-- Bindley Western Industries (NYSE: BDY) Services Over 12,000 Pharmacies and Operates 15 Distribution Centers Across the U.S. Scottsdale Scientific, Inc. (Symbol: STDS), through its wholly owned subsidiary NutriCology, Inc., announced today that it has received approval from Bindley Western Industries, Inc. (NYSE: BDY) to service their customers on a drop ship basis. This will enable Scottsdale Scientific to solicit orders from over 12,000 pharmacies serviced by Bindley Western (NYSE: BDY), whose headquarters are in Indianapolis, Indiana. "This is the first step in what promises to become a major market for the Company," states Marianne Sum, President and CEO of Scottsdale Scientific. Ms. Sum further states, "Our penetration into the pharmacy market has just begun. Conservative estimates suggest sales through the Bindley Western (Symbol: BDY) customer base should exceed $1.5 Million by year end. This would represent a 300% increase in sales in the pharmacy market." Clinton Abbott has been appointed to head up the new division. Clinton brings to the Company 20 years of wholesale pharmaceutical experience. His role will be to develop this emerging market. The marketing efforts will be backed by an extensive marketing plan directed towards the pharmacist. Pharmacists are among the most trusted professionals in the U.S. today. Through educating the pharmacist and their staff to the benefits of nutritional supplementation, Scottsdale Scientific feels they can also build the same trust with the pharmacist as the Company enjoys among physicians. This will lead to the pharmacist recommending the products of Scottsdale Scientific over those of its competitors. In 1997, over-the-counter sales in the pharmacy market topped $25Billion. While overall sales exceed $112Billion. As the public's awareness increases in the direction of proper nutritional supplementation, the pharmacy market is shifting towards alternative healthcare. This category of healthcare has been included in the plan-o-grams of most pharmacy wholesalers. This change from the health food store to the pharmacy marks the acceptance of alternative healthcare to the mainstream and will spark significant growth in the nutraceutical industry as a whole. Scottsdale Scientific sees the difference between its products and those currently offered in the pharmacy market as an issue of quality and purity. As a leader among the providers of alternative healthcare for the past 20 years, Scottsdale Scientific feels its name recognition will also play a large role in the success of the pharmacy division. Scottsdale Scientific, Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary, NutriCology, Inc. is an innovative leader in nutraceutical research and product formulation. Since 1979, the Company is noted for quality, hypoallergenic nutritional supplements and supplies products to approximately 6,000 physicians and health care practitioners world-wide. Allergy Research Group was the first in the U.S. to introduce numerous specialty products including melatonin, a neurohormone, germanium sesquioxide (a trace mineral), AntiOx(tm), a broad-spectrum antioxidant, Buffered Vitamin C and the Total Nutrient Concept. (Includes all in one, proprietary formulas, Total Immune(tm), Total Nerve(tm) and Total Heart(tm)) For additional information, visit our web site at www.nutricology.com Disclaimer: This news release contains forward-looking statements as defined by the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995.
