It will be interesting to see how the information appliance scenario plays out. One thing for sure -it will be dynamic. Wind River products help accelerate the ever more rapid development and introduction of new and better products. But since Wind River's revenue plan benefits from long royalty life of the users end product, it is not at all helpful if the royalty producing product is suddenly outclassed by a competitor. Unless of course, the competitor is also a Wind River user. And unless of course, the original user of Wind River is taking aggressive advantage of its ability to transfer its knowledge and use of Wind River's product to enable an equally aggressive leap.
And unless, of course, Wind River's pricing structure can anticipate and benefit from this phenomenon.
Here's where pricing and market acceptance can roll a really big snow ball. Quite a challenge!
