Hello Edwin, Even though I think of myself as pretty wired to what is happening in the world, I still get clouded thoughts by what is happening in Hong Kong and SE Asia. My Bangkok Bank, Thai Farmers Bank and Land & Houses shares have gone beserk and doubled within the past 30 days. SEAsian/Hong Kong market has similarly gone crazy over any company whose name contain "tech" or "com" (i.e. Semitech - formerly Singer Sewing Machine - making sewing machines and electronic boards, Champion Tech - makes pagers and provides paging service, Tricom - empty shell soon to be used for listing of HK Cyberport project - up 1000% in one day!). None of these companies have the prospect of Softbank or even of any of its divisions (just considering the Asian portion, never mind the US portion). I am stunned but energized.
So, what is 9984's buying point? Given that Merrill had raised 9984 to buy from accumulate, I believe buying on the dip is OK - world liquidity will most likely allow us to exit higher even if we bought high. Especially true in my case as I do not intend to exit for a long time. My only reluctance to buy madly as if there is no tomorrow stems from an uncomfortable feeling about the US market. Having survived the Asian Financial Crisis (... ney, DEPRESSION!!!) in good order based mostly on luck and nimbleness, as opposed to brilliance, and having seen friends imploding from having gorged and choked on Red chips, warrants, averaging downs, etc, I really do not want to be caught in a down draft.
I have also been too busy playing puts/calls on SNE, AOL, ATHM, T and CMCSK lately. A lot of balls in the air at the same time for a traditionally passive investor. The fire is going and the looting is good. What is your thought? |
