I believe InterTrust is a general purpose platform for secure electronic commerce and digital trust management.

For example if someone buys a song off the Internet it checks the
rules that have been set up for that particular song if the
artist gets 50% and the record company gets 30% and the local marketing person gets 20%, the resolution of all transactions will be
settled at the time the song is bought. You should get a choice at
that time to buy it for one time use or buy it forever, remembering that different channels will have had different rules applied.
