By: TWOMIL Reply To: None Thursday, 6 May 1999 at 10:19 AM EDT Post # of 14583 eDig & Philips--Yesterday and Today Philips, once a leader in speech recognition in 1994, fell by the wayside over the past 2-4 years. Ongoing losses in many divisions caused a major reshuffling of their research in this area. In 1995-96 they unsuccessfully tried to market a dictation device the S4 in Europe. It never got to the US and did poorly in Europe because it was buggy, big, and too costly ($1000/unit). At that time they were about to contract with eDig but literally everything came to a stop when this co. began to lose serious money in many of their electronic markets overseas. They never have had an effective marketing and distribution segment in this country. As part of the Voice Alliance, I see them also licensing eDig's micro OS and probably asking eDig to help them with product design and engineering for distribution of a system for Europe. In the Voice alliance, Norcom, Dictaphone, and Olympus may also become customers of eDig. EDig represents no threat to any of the alliance members because we're not competing with them directly in any retail markets. Our customer Lanier is competing, but we're not Lanier. With Philips reorganizing their speech recognition and dictation division I would anticipate some major talent might now become available. eDig is always looking for engineering and marketing personnel. Fred Falk has maintained excellent relationships with Philips over the years and has come to know many of their key executives. The Voice Alliance has greater potential for technical sharing and unity than the SDMI, which will continually have to safeguard the content providers' interests. eDig will have major opportunities in both of these separate industries because we threaten no one and actually enhance products and shorten time to market. Remember we sell knowledge which includes patents and proprietary technical skills for product enhancements in exploding markets. Good luck to all:
