Periphonics IVR System Enhances Student Services At Westfield State College BOHEMIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1999--Periphonics Corporation (Nasdaq: PERI - news), a leading worldwide provider of products and services for call processing solutions used in Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) and Telecom Enhanced Network Services, has implemented its VPS/is Model 9000 Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, at Westfield State College, a liberal arts and sciences institution, located in Westfield, Massachusetts. An initial system, supporting 24-ports, upgradable to 96-ports, was purchased to provide students with a grade reporting and Web application.
The decision to investigate IVR was largely in part to have information available for students, faculty and staff at their leisure. ''The college has a great dependence on technology, but the state requests that we become more efficient with administrative spending,'' states Dr. James Stakenas, executive assistant to the president. Initial intentions for a grant was to purchase a Web application. ''When a Request for Response (RFR) was issued to several IVR vendors, Periphonics responded with an offer of an IVR system as well as a Web application within the initial cost criteria.''
The IVR portion of the system went into service in January 1999 and the Web application will be live in the next few weeks. Within the first 48-hours of the IVR implementation, the system reported 2,700 hits to check grades. ''This application allows students to check grades approximately 2 weeks ahead of receiving grades through the mail,'' reports Stakenas. ''And because there are no restrictions to telephone access, students can call the system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.''
