Several retailers reported strong same-store sales for the month of April. Costco Cos. (Nasdaq: COST) reported a 10% gain in comparable warehouse sales, with net sales up 14% to $2.02 billion from $1.77 billion last April.

Discount giant Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT) posted a lackluster 4.6% gain in same-store sales on the back of a 13.2% increase the year before. The company's Wal-Mart stores saw a 5% rise, while Costco rival Sam's Club turned in a 3.1% gain.
