Dear Barry:
I was thinking about the goals that we set for ourselves to be better fathers , better servants, better bible readers and bible scholars; better husbands, better employees, better stewards ect....
I just must take a little pressure off those that feel this way.
It just seems to me that our identity in Christ is all of these ambitions. Call them goals , that is even worse !( ALREADY ) How so ?
It is almost like a native American saying my goal for this year is to be a better Indian. How ridiculous, a native American is already a million and one % Indian. Right.
We already have our identities in Christ established. If You are a Christian then You are already a better father and husband , or mother, or servant, or bible scholar. Unless the Holy Spirit, interpret the Word of God, for us, we couldn't understand the bible, anyway. So just by being a Christian we are already bible scholars, already understanders of God word. Already discerners of spirits ect.
A better way of making goals in Christ to me is more event driven.
1. I'll give my wife at least one back rub every week.
2. spend at least 5 hours a week with my son.
3. read my bible 2 hours a week.
4. pray 30 minutes a day
or whatever
5. witness to one person a day.
It is unfair to ourselves to say I'll try to be a better ( whatever ); it doesn't give God justice. In Christ are are already a better ( whatever ). Let's put on those robes of righteousness and wear them proudly; strut our stuufff!! We are son's and daughters of the King. We are already better than anything else the world has to offer just because of who we are in Christ. Amen...Brother I'm about to start preaching so I better get off here.........In Christ..gregor |
