The data rate shown in the status bar of Qcharts has nothing to do with our server speed. It reflects how much we need to send you to update the symbols you have active in your workspace and no more. What that shows you is how efficient our data format is - we work very well even on very slow (9600 bps) connections because of this. If you add more symbols to your workspace, you will see that rate go up. The rate will be high during busy market hours (open and close) and next to nothing when nothing is going on.

It has nothing to do with our server performance!

We did, however lose our entire east coast mirror site (herndon) last night because of a complete power outage at our Co-Location provider's site. This is the sort of thing that is never supposed to happen - they are supposed to have power backups to prevent it. They got it back up last night.

However, we had another possibly related outage at herndon this morning and everyone who was connected to the herndon servers was re-connected to mountain view. This may have caused a temporary slowdown as everyone who needed to get re-connected to mtnview got caught up during a busy market period. The system worked as it should - it dealt with a major catastrophe with a relatively minor slowdown for some users. We will work to ensure that this type of thing doesn't happen again, and we will be adding a third redundant site in the near future.

The herndon location is back up and running and the slowdown should have lasted only a few minutes.

Our LiveCharts site is still having difficulties related to its popularity and our load balancing, and some permissioning problems this morning. We have solutions in place that will alleviate the load balancing problem over the next week.
