Regardless of the news talk about ONE 3G standard, DoKoMo wants a branded 3g which would potentially cause their smaller Japanese competitor, DDI to spend extensive dollars to upgrade from CDMA to new 3G WCDMA. DoKoMo will play the 3G music in public all the while supporting WCDMA incompatability issue relative to DDI. They have no desire in giving DDI an upper hand to the market they already practically "own". Did you read yesterday the news that a couple of senators are intervening on the China CDMA issue again relative to ERICY? Their complaint was that they believe ERICY is speaking with a forked tongue (hmmm, imagine that) - supporting CDMA with the mouth while continuing GSM planting ($20 million CDMA outlay vs. $185 million GSM outlay in China). The GSM networks have compatability issues which favor current WCDMA arrangement which Nokia/ERICY is outlining. Interesting stuff to say the least.

Nokia, I think, wants a strong IDC. Strong IDC = potential weak ERICY competitor. If IDC pulls this off relative to WCMDA, then proven IPRs are payable to IDC and not ERICY. Chess game. What say ye?

If ERICY doesn't see this coming, they're using blinders. All the more reason to settle with IDC, get it out from under the rug, so I assume.
