Because AOL got more than a browser. They got a server business which they sold to Sun to finance their purchase. It was actually a great move cause the Netscape portal was just getting under way at the time...and may ultimately (if AOL plays its cards right) be a major (if not THE major) portion of AOL's internet strategy.
