Standard & Poor's reiterated its 5 STARS (buy) recommendation on shares
of MCI WorldCom (Nasdaq: WCOM - news) and its 4 STARS (accumulate) opinion on Nextel Communications (Nasdaq: NXTL - news). Analyst Phil Wohl notes that published reports indicate merger discussions between Internet and phone giant WCOM and national digital wireless provider NXTL have ended. He thinks WCOM may wait to reopen talks as NXTL strengthens operations that won't materially impact WCOM's bottom line.
