Brightpoint Signs Agreement With BCP S.A.
INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1999--Brightpoint, Inc. (NASDAQ:CELL - news) announced today that it has entered into an agreement for distribution of mobile phone prepaid cards with BCP S.A. (''BCP''). BCP holds the B-band mobile communications license in Brazil within region 1, which includes the capital city of Sao Paulo and surrounding cities.
Through BCP S.A., BCP Telecomunicacoes became the B-band cellular telephone operating company for the Metropolitan Region of Sao Paulo, which comprises an estimated population of 18 million inhabitants and 64 municipalities that use the 011 area code. As of December 31, 1998, BCP had approximately 1 million subscribers on its mobile communications network.
