<<What is the easiest way to hook up with someone on TFC. Is it just one big honkin' chat room or is it channelled somehow?>>

IMO, the best way to find fast servers or other players is using gamespy <www.gamespy.com>. The program is shareware, and uses a central tracking server (don't ask me too many details) to keep track of all the half-life servers. Once you download the server list, the program will ping each server and retrieve info....like the map that's being played....who is playing.....etc. There is a filter somewhere for TFC that I use to eliminate non-TFC half-life servers. It is pretty simple and a great piece of software. Other games are supported as well (e.g., QuakeII, Unreal).

I find that if I use the software built into TFC/Half-life to find servers, I don't find as many and don't always get the performance. For example, a "low ping server" on the built-in software doesn't always translate into a smooth game. With gamespy I have much better luck.

Which reminds me...I'm outta here and going home. Big win today for a client so things are good. It doesn't happy often, so I think I need to celebrate. 4 hours of straight hunter hunted? Or dinner at my favorite restaurant? Damn, I'll never grow up. See....that's why I persist in owning video game stocks. They can be so compelling! I have to believe this market will continue to grow demographically. We'll see who wins.
