IDT's Dedicated ISP Backbone the Heart of Net2Phone>>>
of Net2Phone
IDT is a national 'Tier 1' Internet Service Provider whose backbone
is designed for high speed connectivity.
IDT is one of the only
Internet Service Providers that will guarantee 99.2% uptime and
throughput to the backbone.

Backbone Overview
IDT's fully redundant clear channel DS3 backbone is unique from
other providers in that it makes use of telecom switching
technologies that route data traffic with up to 1/1000th the
latency of a typical router. Our clear channel DS3s are
switched, via these units, and provide a stable, secure platform for
our Cisco 7500 series routing equipment. Should any one of our
National DS3s fail, data will be switched through a backup fault
tolerant path that operates below the IP layer to avoid the large
overhead involved in recalculating routed paths. This allows us to
recover within milliseconds; it takes our competitors minutes. IDT's
network architecture is based on a minimum hop strategy: Any
network node is a maximum of five hops from an Internet meet
point. This unique design minimizes packet loss and delay, and
guarantees the best possible performance. This topology is unique
among major ISP's.

IDT currently peers in four public Internet meet points, (Mae-East,
Mae-West, AADS NAP and Sprint NAP). It is here that IDT hands
off traffic to and from other large ISPs and over 70 other ISPs who
seek peering arrangements. In addition to draining traffic at public
exchanges, we also have mutual private peering setup with other
large national ISPs to provide high-quality, stable traffic flow and
avoid congestion.

We monitor activities on our backbone with several tools. These
tools are a combination of commercially available and proprietary
applications developed by Cabletron and our own development
staff. We leverage these applications to provide us with snapshots
of our network every 15 seconds. The engineers monitor overall
network stability and bandwidth utilization. This allows us to
identify "hot-spots" on the network before they develop into
problems, thus insuring network integrity. Our Network Operations
Center monitors the network and it's connectivity 24 hours a day/7
days a week/365 days a year.v
