At best, that statement is extraordinarily misleading. How many times does one need to repeat this? Even though nearly everyone here knows this by now, you might benefit from this reminder: Allen owns a 30-40% stake in Go2Net. That part of the deal was never in doubt. He would have had an additional 14% interest (for 54) if the tender offer had been fully subscribed.

So your statement might have been accurate had you said something like this: "Allen's bid to acquire an additional 14% of Go2Net on the market was utterly rebuffed."
