Erik, thanks for the responses to my questions. You bring up some good points about direct-debit vs EBPP. It's true that many people simply want control over exactly when the payment comes out of their account. I'm happy to hear that Washington Mutual will be going online soon on the web. They recently got all new IBM flat-screen terminals running an all-new custom-designed software program by IBM, running on IBM OS/2. They still need to bring their commercial accounts software upgraded to Y2K compatibility, and then I would think as the icing on the cake, bring the EBPP system online on the web for consumer accounts.
