SCUMbria - Re: "Have you ever used a wide datapath? It costs a lot less than $1000 per chip."

Intel makes just such a chip - an 18 Megabit high speed SRAM - with a 72 bit data bus - 64 bits data + 8 bits for ECC/Parity.

It runs at full 550 MHz processor speeds - and even higher !

When the K7 benchmarks come out, and you realize how crippled the K7 is because of AMD's inability to provide anything higher than 1/2 or 1/3 CPU speed SRAM, then you'll know why Intel charges - AND GETS - a premium for their in-house high speed SRAMs.
