If I understand the release correctly, they are talking about being able to store more data on a smart card or credit card than currently possible. This is a definite plus for biometric scanners/recorders because they may take large amounts of memory to store the image or identifying minutae - depending upon what format is used to store the image. As the article mentions, other potential applications are passports, visas, banking, healthcare, ID cards, driver's licenses, etc.

I looked LASX up on Bloomberg. They have 35.7 million shares outstanding @ $1 each for a market cap of $36 million. They are losing money pretty regularly and don't seem to have any large partners yet,which means it may be a while before they can exploit their technology.
