"SprintPCS is unaware of any new models from Nokia, want to get rid of their inventory of 2170's but get inquires about the PdQ."

That's interesting. Considering Sprint PCS is launching a multi-million dollar ad campaign this month with Seven-Up, featuring Nokia's new 51xx entry-level phones. It might be interpreted as a snub for certain other models entering market this spring. Sprint probably knows what they're doing in giving a strong backing to handsets specifically targeted at the youth market. The lack of proper segmentation has been absent in the CDMA market so far.

''Combining three strong consumer brands -- Sprint PCS , 7 UP and Nokia -- into a highly visible summer promotional program provides a powerful combination that we are all very excited to be a part of.''

The operative phrase here is "strong consumer brands". I'd call this a tangible show of commitment from Sprint.
