David: your analysis makes sense on the surface. But if their failure to compete at the lower end of the post-production market is the whole story, then Avid's revenues should be dropping off a cliff. This is not the case as revenues are increasing. Perhaps the answer to this contradiction lies in some market share analysis and growth projections for all of Avid's products (they make over 50) along with a revenue breakdown for each product line (they have 7). Again, to focus solely on the editing line which did account for a "substantial majority" of revenues at least in 1995 may be misleading. I wish I had this information but I do not. If someone does, please post it. If I find the time, I will attempt to secure it.

In talking with IR, they see growth in audio and newsroom automation.
BTW, my eps numbers for some years may be off due to my reliance on a secondary source.
