The point that was being made is that Western CB's are keeping a hammer of supply over the gold market and were the Chinese CBs decide to "tickle" their western counterparts by buying gold, they would, in fact, be cutting their own throats.

End the economic party in the US and the world goes into depression... with all of the nasty consequences that go with it.
