Walt, thanks for the reply <<Imagine, a la W-CDMA that every orthogonal channel has it's own asynchronous code word that has to be found by the matched filter each time a burst of data comes from that user. This represents an overhead constraint that is just simply not present in a coherent system. And it is a waste of system resources(data capacity)!>> that's exactly what I thought too. But, from a previous conversation, they claim it's a non-issue. There's a specialist in this area calling me later today to discuss this issue again and I will post his reply. Remember, it was GBT that was primarily instrumental in starting the 3G issues with the ITU. Q joined much later only after (I'm told) they considered it a threat. This was one attendee's claim.
