it without changing anything. Just make it and ignore it

Not changing anything as in going into BIOS to indicate a change in boot drive?

If I'm understanding you correctly this backup primary OS would be similar to the hidden backup KOT i have at the end of ide 1 ( same drive as primary nt). I put that KOT Backup there to have it on a drive other than the KOT drive. Your spec to not have to change anything to boot the primary backup would put it on the same drive as the real primary NT...no? Why is not having to change anything important if change is just rebooting to a different drive? What if the primary drive fails? I wouldn't have access to the real primary NT or its backup. If it were on another drive, the backup that is, whether removable or not, I would have access to the backupOS and critical apps if the primary drive failed (or if I messed up the primary OS).

The thing about putting a backup OS and apps on a removable that I like is if a twister were to hit New England I could take my removable drive with me into the storm cellar that we don't have<g> more likely take it with me in event of fire.

Now thinking back to when we were orginally discussing backup OSs, ZP suggested putting KOT backup on a drive other than its home drive and there was mention of doing the same for the primary install.

Am I correct in thinking you mean to put the primary's backup on the same home drive?
