* NB Montgomery raised WHOLE FOODS MARKET INC to a buy from a
hold. USB Piper Jaffray also upgraded Whole Foods Market to buy
from neutral. Further information was not immediately available.

* U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray said it raised WHOLE FOODS MARKET to
a buy from a neutral due to a better earnings visibility. The
company reported 1Q earnings of $0.43 per diluted share, beating
consensus estimates by $0.01, versus $0.40 the prior year.
Anticipate adding five stores in fourth quarter and 15 to 20
stores during fiscal year 2000. Set a 12 month target price $43.
