To Robert Hall and DLL, regarding John 1:1 and translations:

Gentlemen: I used the NWT in my last post to demonstrate that it conveys exactly the same meaning in all the verses I quoted as the KJV, ASV and probably any translation you may have. Look the verses up to verify.

DLL: I will not accept the NASV as a standard. My reason is its retrograde from the lofty achievement of the 1901 ASV which displays the Name of God 6,728 times. I bought the one I've carried to 50,000 doors from Zondervan's, Grand Rapids, 17 September 1957. For your pleasure I'll mainly use it as we study. Thomas Nelson & Sons, the original publisher of the ASV discontinued it when the RSV, wherein Jehovah is nameless, was introduced in 1952. The Watchtower obtained the authority to print this fine work, and is now the only source for the ASV 1901.

If your close friends refused to use your personal name how would you like it? Wouldn't you be incensed if I quoted a Bible that removed the name of Jesus and substituted MASTER or TEACHER That's how I feel about those works that remove the most exalted Name in the universe from His own book. Please refer to my post #25321, and consider these:

Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. Exodus 3:15 ASV1901

Oh Praise Jehovah, all ye nations; Laud him all ye peoples. For his lovingkindness is great toward us; and the truth of Jehovah endureth for ever. Praise ye Jehovah. Psalm 117, Shortest Bible chapter.

Who has authority to write Jehovah's name out of the Bible? Whom would it please? Only the great nameless one, whom we call Satan [Resister] and Devil [Slanderer]. When he's gone, no one on earth will ever know who he was. [I'll never forget what's-his'name] If you cast the Name of Jehovah aside as unessential, your Name-gutted translations have taught this to you. You see, the name Jehovah is an embarrassment, because even to say it is to suggest Jehovah's Witnesses.

States John L. McKenzie, S.J. [Jesuit priest] in his excellent Dictionary of the Bible: "The God of Israel is called by His personal name more frequently than by all other titles combined. The name not only identified the person, it revealed his character. The name is now pronounced Yahweh by scholars; the true pronunciation of the name was lost during Judaism when a superstitious fear of the name prevented its enunciation. In place was read Adonai, LORD."

He continues under this heading, God: "Jn 1:1 should rigorously be translated: the word was with the God and the word was a divine being." McKenzie thus agrees with Benjamin Wilson's Emphatic Diaglott [interlinear column], An American Translation by Smith & Goodspeed, and the NWT.

Under Trinity McKenzie says: "The trinity of God is defined by the Church as the belief that in God are three persons who subsist in one nature. The belief as so defined was reached only in the 4th and 5th centuries AD and hence is not explicitly and formally a biblical belief. The trinity of persons within the unity of nature is defined in terms of "person" and "nature" which are Greek philosophical terms; actually the terms do not appear in the Bible. The trinitarian definitions arose as the result of long controversies"

God is not a God of confusion, but of Peace" 1 Cor 14:33 AMEN!
You say I'm blinded, Robert. Christianity is an extension of Judaism.
Note that for 43 centuries mankind, including God's people Israel, were blind to the true identity of God ... until the RCC defined Him in 325AD at the Council of Nicea, which only installed a Binity, not a Trinity. That came later.

Please do not tell me I don't qualify to understand the truth in the scriptures, Robert; I would not presume to say the same to you. By the way, the first translation of YHWH into Jehovah was by a Spanish monk named Martini in the 15th century.

GOD: This term is several times applied in scripture to others than Jehovah. I'll discuss that more, later. But the question is: DOES GOD HAVE A GOD? Jesus does, #25346 gives 8 citations. Is anyone ever equal to his God?

Good Evening, Gentlemen!
