This is from the latest TNT2 praisings from rumorfish:

Something worthy of note (and we'll have more for you on this) is that within the console menu of Quake 2 we noticed that the SGIS_MULTITEXTURE instruction was NOT FOUND. However the GL_ARB mode is actually being implemented instead for the single-pass multitexturing. We're unsure as to why NVIDIA dropped the SGIS as we're under the impression this is actually faster?

Did NVIDIA get rid of multitexturing for the TNT2??? The bottom line is that the TNT2 can do two pixels per clock or 1 multitextured pixel per clock. I wouldn't be surprised if getting rid of multitexturing actually increases performance on this card. Of course, the picture quality will probably suffer because of the multiple passes required.

...or they were forced to get rid of it because of the lawsuit.
