I've been following this thread all day and respectfully observe that it is futile to debate the DSL/CABLE issue at this point in time. Reminds me of the VHS/BETA or High Definition TV debates in the early days.

What is important is that AOL's success is in packaging the content and experience for its members. They should not be going out to buy a Cable company in my opinion. They should be buying companies like ICQ which comes with users and offers a feature to existing members.

For AOL to buy cable companies is like for Amazon to buy book publishers/sellers. Look at Barnes and Noble and Borders. They need to SPIN out their online business to get maximum value not the other way around. Microsoft is a software company. I don't see them buying box makers to ensure that their software gets in them. I say stick to your core competencies which is for AOL to give clients the best interface onto the internet. In the end content and user experience will be king!

Good luck to all....
