Positive article from last Dick Davis Digest:
ú "What's so great about carbon fiber?" asks Tom Finocchiaro (Tom's Newsletter CMonev Matters & More P.O. Box 756, Southampton, NY 11969, 12 issues, $39, 2/97). "It's lighter stiffer and stronger than both steel and aluminum. Until recently, it had been relatively expensive, about $150 per pound. By 1994, however, that price had fallen to about $30 per pound. Now a small company called Zoltek (ZOLT 27 3/4 OTC), wiffi just $20 million in sales in the last 12 months, has driven the price down further, to $8 per pound. This has opened up new markets in automotive airbags and braking systems for airplanes (where it's already the world leader). Long-term, the sky's the limit for carbon fiber. Zoltek has been profitable in the past 15 quarters. Analysts expect earnings of$0.36 for 1996, $0.70 for 1997 and $1.35 in 1998. We see a great future for Zoltek." |
