Mike, I was under the impression that ATM was for the core and as one gets away from the core to the desktop we would see IP. Now Cisco wants IP in the core, to ATM at the edge, to IP at the desktop. Here is an interesting article in this months teledotcom: MPLS Standard Gets Caught in a Traffic Jam Conflicting routing proposals hold up deployment teledotcom.com Service providers are deploying ATM in the backbone today, they can't wait. If Cisco truely wants to compete in the Telecommunication Industry with LU, NT, ALA, etc, they need to provide the solutions which are required for todays environment. I fully expect LU to be ready with a combined IP+ATM next generation platform which will exceed Cisco... until later.
