"Maybe half the installations need an installer. So, you cut a deal with the US government to supply manpower via the military, the national guard. Those guys in general are plenty smart and don't need much training. You learn by doing anyway. Internet communications are a matter of national security so use of GI is justified"
From my experience I believe that if you have 10/100 ethernet card installed with your computer you don't need an installer. My fist connection was on one that didn't and @home came out to install the ethernet card, install setup disk.(took all of 20 minutes) But after moving from that location to another, within the same cable area. I purchased a new computer with the ethernet card install, called @ home and was sent the install CD within 24 hrs. As long as the cable is to your house, it is a very easy job to run cable from correct splitters and make connection at any point you choose.
I believe that I have read some where that ATHM will be selling the router that they have to install, at places like radio shack ect. That is how I see the future of installation. You go home plug it in and run install CD which will have some type of unlocking number so you can get the new address, to put in when you are asked, on install. If I'm right, I believe that people will be more exposed to @home by way of demonstrations in stores.
I'll try and go back and see if I can find the piece on in store routers.(or what ever they call there connection box) Hope I didn't mess this up to badly.
