Brad,

Technical stuff:

You write "You mentioned that you thought that the specialist might try to keep IDX near 10 so that the March 10 calls would expire worthless"

They will have no value....he keeps his underlying postion.

"and that if IDX was on the NASDAQ that it would be trading at about 15"

More exposure.....IMO

"Can you go over how this works, Specialist makes money? As a guy who is long IDX.....and I am ....very.....what do I want to see....Do I want to see the stock up so that the 10s are called from the owners of the options?"

The stock and options specialist are the bookies....the option's guy sold people the right to buy at $10....You and him have different goals he makes money every day(BTW 80% of options expire worthless or get sold at losses)....he knows who is buying and where they are buyers. When there is no one looking they drop the bid and people get nervous and sell into low volume days. IDX had great volume and a great run, but he basically was selling the stock he collected at 7, 8 and 9....his inventory.

"I guess I'm asking for the basic "How a specialist can dick with a stock, 101....." What happens if a meaningful announcement pops up? Give us the "naked" truth and we will "cover" you with thanks....
I think others might be curious also......."

They gap up the stock and sell you their inventory....(this is why news usually never happens while the market is opened....and also when they do release news during the market why stocks get haulted).....after they sell their inventory is when supply and demand dictate.....this only happens when it is a truly liquid market and much harder to manipulate....FOR EXAMPLE: INTC, MSFT, or any other stock that trades huge volume.

I hope the above helps.....it is my opinion and my understanding of what goes on.

Regards,

Rob
