Yes Reginald you've put your finger on the strategy

Marengi was focused on the "enterprise" because its "safe" Novell territory currently and the sales numbers were to be juicy with 4.11 so he could become CEO. I think he wrote off the low end of the server market in terms of product development. Then he lost the sales bet.
As Joe would say what an a**hole.

He ran away from MSFT and tried to hide.
Of course Gates plans that next move. This was discussed in some depth back in September and October of last year on this thread.

NDS is the last defense using the give up the fight strategy.
However an alternate strategy would involve reinventing the applications/PC in the form of JAVA/server and going back after the territory MSFT sought to occupy from which to mount its attack on the "enterprise". No such product appeared from Novell, instead just surrender the territory and retreat to the fortress.

This is the real damage that Marengi has done. We see it in the false sense of security "that all is well" and the simultaineous intense anger expressed against the stockholders here by some Novell posters.

I've seen this whole scenario before.
That's why we need to get a new CEO ASAP!
