Derek: It is indeed the tip of the tip. Look at the movement towards devolution in Scotland and Wales, the secessionism of the Northern League in Italy, and the questioning of the future of Belgium which is going on, and one can see that we are nowhere near an acceptable World Polity. Even in the UK, Thatcher would sooner have entered into an Atlantic Confederation with the States and Canada than have agreed to monetary union with the Continent. Historical processes frequently are glacial, and subvert the aspirations of social planners!
