pomp, i am not in the know but, i would not expect intel to make a significant public announcement until they can ship in quantities unless they are feeling heat from an outside source. if they have the chipset ready and want to upstage the k7 we might see an early announcement in may or june or july as you suggest possibly/probably accompanied by some shipping. that just might be enough to get the rest of the rdram mfrs in an earlier ramp mode. there are some 15 dram mfrs in production or poised to begin rdram production not including the sony and toshiba new $1 billion dollar rambus rdram mfr facility now under construction. on the other hand, i would also expect them to continue to demonstrate 800 rdram at every opportunity.
the thread here continues to concentrate on rdram pc sales for earnings info. remember that rdram in pc's will account for only 35% of rmbs revenues. servers will be 15% and other uses the other 50%. other uses include digital tv, dvd, scanners, copiers, printers, high speed telephone equipment, game sets, etc. the ceo of matsushita(panasonic) recently stated that they are designing numerous consumer products to use rdram and he suggested others are too. i read yesterday that by 2001 we will be able to get all major tv on digital broadcasts. when we buy our hdtv's over the next coupla years, we will find rdram inside. this often ignored little rdram gem is a much much bigger design win than sony imo.
stuart steele predicted rmbs 500 in two years. i suggest we rename the thread the
"500 CLUB"
later we can rename it the 1000 club, then the 1500 club then...well i'm sure you get my drift. actually right now, i am personally concentrating on the 295 club. unclewest
