Diatribe --- very funny word.

It currently means invective or angry argument but is derived from L. diatriba "learned discourse" from Gr. diatribe "wearing away" [from the tendency of academic philosophers exhaustively to bore in their inquiries]. Epictetus's lectures were called "diatribes" and were so mild and reasonable that they are boring in the extreme, although no doubt full of wisdom. This is a very little, short diatribe.
