CIVILITY TO ONE ANOTHER HERE???

Only if those who are inclined to post messages which are in violation of the 'Terms of Use' restrain themselves.

We can only reasonably expect this self-restraint if they believe there is a cost to them for such conduct.
It will take a little convincing, imho.

SI Administrators do not monitor threads as a general rule.
They act when they are informed of violations.

EVERYONE--DON'T EXPECT THAT SOMEONE ELSE WILL DO THIS.
If I'm the only one who thinks this is necessary and appropriate, then I will accept the common sentiment and just un-bookmark this thread (as so many others have done) the next time we have the mud-slinging.

When someone makes personal attacks, or otherwise violates the 'Terms of Use', simply report them to Jill the webmistress, whose email address is on most every page,

or report it to SI Admin (Bob) by Private Message
Here's his profile, just click on 'Private Message' and tell him about it.

you could 'peoplemark' Bob's profile so it would be real easy to find.

If the attack is against you, don't respond in kind, just report it.
If the attack is against another, report it.
If it's two misguided angry people slinging mud, report them both.

In your message to Bob or Jill, give them link(s) to the offensive post(s), and quotes from them, as appropriate.

Or simply give the 'REPLY #', and the thread's name, and ask Bob or Jill to take a look at it, to see if it violates the 'Terms of Use.'

TERMS OF USE
Click on 'Terms of Use' at the bottom of most pages to see them.
Here's a snip:
"...B. You agree not to use the service for illegal purposes or for the transmission of material that is unlawful, harassing, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, tortious, improper or otherwise objectionable... "
