Mmmmm.... maybe what you meant to say was "the largest protests since the Tiananmen Square protests."

At any rate, yes; the situation is not good right now in China, and it is being exacerbated by the Chinese government. (Happily, however, all is quiet here in Hong Kong...)

Which brings us back to Tiananmen: Better to have "the masses" protesting the US than remembering the tenth anniversary of Tiananmen, on 4 June. Takes the heat of the government...

But an accident like this couldn't have come at a worse time (not that there could have been a good time), as the bombing of the Chinese embassy hit just a couple of days after the 80th anniversary of China's May Fourth Movement.
