Dave, I was waiting for you to pounce on that, actually. I am not confusing it, though. Of course we tolerate many things that we think are harmful, but not everything. Now, should we permit people to knowingly profit by abetting the misery of others? If I had a friend in a black depression, and I provided him with the means to suicide, even though his condition was treatable had I encouraged him to seek psychiatric help, should I be held liable, not only legally, but morally. In fact, according to the law in most places, if I fail to give reasonable aid in an emergency, I am liable, much more if I exacerbate a situation... |
