Canada NewsWire - Pointcast Network Canada ESSEX RESOURCE CORPORATION ANNOUNCES METALLURGICAL TESTING INDICATES HIGH GOLD GRADES AND RECOVERY AT MIGUELA 20:25 EST Wednesday, March 5, 1997

Canada NewsWire

VANCOUVER, March 5 /CNW/ - Mr. Ian Rozier, Director, is pleased to announce preliminary metallurgical test results from the Miguela property in eastern Bolivia have been received from the Company's metallurgical consultants Kappes, Cassiday and Associates.

The leach portion of cyanide bottle roll tests completed on three samples collected from deep Trench 96-1 have returned grades significantly higher than the fire assay head grades. Results of the bottle roll tests are as follows:

Sample No. Fire Assayed Bottle Roll Increase Gold Recovery

Grade Extracted Grade (%) (%)

(g/t Au) (g/t Au)

25046 2.08 2.53 22 97.3

25047 3.17 4.37 38 96.0

25048 9.96 13.44 35 95.5

The substantial increase in gold grade reported by cyanide leach over conventional fire assay, is a very positive indication that the grades returned from classical lead-collection fire assay appear to underestimate the grade of the deposit by a significant factor. Also, the recovery factors reported from this preliminary metallurgical testing indicate that very high gold recoveries will be attained using conventional cyanide leach technology. Additional column leach testing is currently underway.

The Company is extremely pleased with these results which greatly enhance the economic potential of the Miguela concession.
