VocalTec to Install $20 Mln
Communications Network in China

By Ora Coren, Beijing

VocalTec signed an agreement today in China
with the Chinese communications company
China Telecom. In the initial stage, the value of
the project will be millions of dollars, and
sources involved in its preparation estimate it
will total $20 million.

VocalTec general manager Doron Singer told
"Globes" that the agreement includes the supply
of equipment, installation and service for setting
up a voice and fax network on the existing
Internet network. Singer said it was the first
project of its kind in China, and is regarded as
particularly prestigious.

In the tender for the Chinese network, VocalTec
beat leading international companies, including
Lucent, Ericsson, Cisco and Clearnet. Another
Chinese tender is expected, towards the setting
up of a large commercial network.
