Hitachi uses compcore in their camera(still pictures only). They announced the camera last fall. This new Codec is in a camcorder. There are really very few MPEG algorithms that work. There is CUBE. Compcore, Mediamatics, and the David Sarnoff Research Center are the most widely used. There are only a few others. CUBE does not sell its core, the others do. If you want to do MPEG, and get it to the market fast, just buy a core and add silicon. It's really not that easy, but it is the reason why there are so many entrents in the MPEG field.
