Nancy, I think you are correct that the classic MF calculation is to only count the up and down tics and skip trades at the same price as the previous trade. Frankly, I haven't been able to understand why that would be a good indicator, so I count all trades ie if the previous trade was at the same price as the last one and it was a but, the last one is counted as a buy also. My data only includes block trades.
